At Ramp Up, our mission is to help kids develop resilience, resourcefulness, confidence, and creative expression by introducing them to the foundations of skateboarding. Our fun and supportive environment encourages young skaters to explore their potential, embrace challenges, and develop a sense of self.

Whether your child is stepping on a skateboard for the very first time or looking to level up their skills, our certified instructors are here to guide them every step of the way.

Skaters are required to bring their own safety helmets (bicycle helmets are fine). Skateboards will be available to borrow at no additional charge.

About Us

Christine & Mike

Christine and Mike live in Phoenixville with their two young daughters, Ryleigh & Louisa, and are very excited to bring Ramp Up to the local communities.  Mike has grown up with a passion for skateboarding and has extensive experience working with kids in both tech and sports education.  Christine has a background in tech and project management, helping ensure all the operations of Ramp Up run smoothly while also sharing a passion of helping build confidence and community amongst kids.  You'll often find us enjoying time in downtown Phoenixville and spending time with our family and friends.

 FAQs

  • It’s a common misconception that skateboarding is an exceptionally dangerous activity. When stacked alongside other popular sports, skateboarding-related injuries occur less frequently than injuries sustained while playing basketball, football, soccer, and baseball.

    Additionally, almost all serious skateboarding injuries are caused by two easily-avoidable factors: (1) collisions with motor vehicles and (2) lack of proper safety equipment, i.e. no helmet.

    By providing a certified instructor, beginner-friendly environment, and requiring protective gear, Ramp Up is the safest way to start skateboarding.

  • Yes. Ramp Up’s curriculum has been designed to address the fundamental skills and knowledge that a young person needs in order to be safe and have fun at their local skatepark. In addition to riding basics, participants will learn about skateboarding equipment and park etiquette. Each day will contain a balance of new skills, supervised practice, and creative games and challenges!

    Unless otherwise specified, no prior experience is required to join a group session.

  • Much like learning an instrument, skateboarding requires that participants practice riding between sessions. As such, participants are strongly encouraged to purchase their own skateboard and protective gear. A limited number of boards, helmets, and pads will be available for students who need them.

  • The Ramp Up instructor certification program is facilitated by the US Skateboarding Education Association (USSEA). The process includes:

    • Pennsylvania Access to Criminal History (PATCH) background check

    • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Certification

    • Heads Up concussion training

    • CPR/First Aid training via the Red Cross

    • SafeSport training

    • Multiple USSEA online courses followed by a live practical exam
